Beavers are a ‘keystone species’ within their ecosystem. They create wetlands which provide habitats for a range of wildlife such as water voles, otters, dragonflies and amphibians. They coppice waterside trees and shrubs, letting in light to help plants grow and allowing the scrub to grow back as dense cover for birds and other animals.
Castor Fiber I illustrates the above wildlife which will be present in our ecosystem if we reintroduce Beavers and aims to encourage every one of us to support and admire these fascinating and hugely beneficial rodents if we hope to have healthy riverbank ecosystems.
