Will St.Kilda ever see families living there again?

John Dyer, 63

Having been lucky enough to visit St.Kilda 3 times, each time I went I always left with the thought that wouldn’t it be great if people could live there again? Walking through the deserted houses on a quiet day, I swear I heard echoes of the past. The National Trust do a fine job of taking care of the island, but the romantic in me would love to see Hirta a place for people to live on rather than be a relic of the past. It probably will never happen, but I can always dream and no matter how long I live, I will remember my visits to the Dual World Heritage Site of St.Kilda…
