The message I want to convey with my self-portrait entry, is that mental health issues can be staring you in the face, but that it’s so taboo to talk about it that we simply don’t address it. The person who is suffering from a mental health issue can often feel a sense of embarrassment, as they feel “crazy” or “weak”. Similarly, other people often feel uncomfortable talking to the sufferer about their mental health, and that needs to change. I hope that this stigma around mental health is eradicated and that we can soon start to really talk about it without shame.
