Why do we struggle to let go?

Martina Cook, 41 | Carol Sinclair, 58 | Olive M. Ritch, 60

Transitions of Light is an experimental film exploring the experience of loss, grief, and recovery through the collaboration of 3 artists – ceramic artist Carol Sinclair, poet Olive M. Ritch and filmmaker Martina Cook. Everyone who has suffered loss knows that they must let go, and yet letting go cannot happen immediately. The tension between looking back and moving forward captures the essence of grief, expressed through the play of light and shadow on porcelain and the accompanying poetry performance. In the end, grief is the realisation that life, as we know it, has changed, and we have to change with it. All that was familiar has gone, but this doesn’t mean all is lost. A new life awaits just behind the pain, with a new light…and a new hope.
