Why do we build our lives around imagined afterlives?

Alexandra Davis, 16

The worlds obsession with religion puzzles me. Is it a tool for good, evil, or both? Is it simply a way to make sense of an unpredictable world? And why does humanity have such faith that whatever beings reside in the next world are infallible and all knowing? My entry is a satirical, mocking take on all religion, but I wanted to explore what would happen if we found out that in fact, the afterlife is not so very different to this life. The way religion can influence people is becoming increasingly relevant in today’s society, and this story about an ordinary man making his way through the afterlife is my way of trying to make sense of it all. I hope this can provoke thought in someone else, and if not, then all I hope is that it entertains them.
