Why Do I Feel So Restrained?

Colin Goodall, 48

This poem is a snapshot of a moment in my life, when I had gone back to college and had learned more about myself and my abilities as an artist, than in any other time in my life. It is about a pivotal moment that we all have. The poem deals with issues of self-doubt and dealing with mental illness. The work relates to my self-doubt in a way to highlight the apathy I had embedded in me and it took a lot of soul searching and counselling to move forward as a person and an artist. It highlights the doubts I had, as well as the healing process that had gone underway. The moving forward was a very spiritual experience and it was the moment where I had decided that if I simply worked, positive results would always come in the end.
