When is one man’s cure another man’s poison?

Glen Baillie, 38

”Suicide is the single biggest killer of men aged under 45 in the UK. In 2015, 75% of all UK suicides were male” I made this piece for all the men around the world suffering as an effect of covid 19 and those that we have lost in the martial arts community already. ‘Covid the Silent killer’ This picture symbolizes the millions that rely upon martial arts to be their ‘light at the end of the tunnel’, the ‘mental medication’ few can understand, their one release in life, to help cope with the loss, the pain, and the fear that we experience and take us to that point we so rarely talk about. I created the art for the clothing (printing in polyester via sublimation/cutting/sewing etc), the artwork is influenced by one of the very last samurai. I manufactured the item by hand and spent weeks putting the lighting and position to catch the perfect moment. This photograph shows the pain men suffer in silence that sometimes will only ever be heard in the dojos. I started the arts in 1989 and I have been an artist ever since. red mat to represent the blood spilt.
