What would happen if we all started making works of art?

Katie Piggot, 40

‘Head in the clouds’ is the title of my painting. Art is great, not because others like it, but because it’s a way of creating and expressing yourself in a way you couldn’t otherwise. Art moves your emotions, provokes a response and can be a way of releasing tension. Even if you think you are terrible at art, it doesn’t matter because in some way art can free your mind to relax, forget yourself, your problems and even help you process pain and anxiety. This piece is a reflection of how switching off and painting can be like dreaming. Painting, composing, drawing, building, making new things can bring another dimension to your life that adds to it in a way other things can’t. Art could help those struggling with loss, illness, anger, anxiety, frustration, fear, loneliness, depression and suicidal thoughts. I would love it to become a more normal part of life to make art of any kind as I think it can be like a balm for your soul. Not all you need, but it can be a fruitful addition to anyone’s life. Unless of course you just really hate art.
