What will we tell our children about tigers?

Hiiro Moriyama, 21

My artwork represents how fragile these unique apex predators are in the hands of our species who, in the last few centuries, underwent a global industrialisation that pushed back many subspecies of tigers to the cliff of extinction- as a result of killing and hunting, illegal logging, and forest destruction. Urbanisation is replacing the ever decreasing population of these tigers and many other animals. Over the last century, tiger numbers have fallen by about 95 percent and tigers now survive in 40 percent less of the area they occupied just a decade ago, according to the World Wildlife Fund. Clearly, lots of work and effort is needed to protect these animals, if we are to secure their future in the wild, or else all there is to know about them, will be from some fairy tale books and paintings like this one.
