This poem represents integrity; its ability to affirm and destroy self-hood. My mother struggles to look beyond the doctrine of her religion in the face of my relationship with another woman. In upholding the integrity of her religion, I begin to compromise my own. And so, our relationship – something which has only ever been close – is beginning to fracture.
