I’ve grown up in Glasgow, with a Scottish mum and Algerian dad. It was only through family holidays that I had a window into the world of my Algerian family. The question of this cultural divide has become more and more present in my mind over the years.
As I’ve gotten older I’ve become more aware of the realities of being a woman in this culture and how this contrasts with my life in the culture that I’ve been brought up in. The importance of this question is not just in relation to how I live my life but also what kind of relationship I’m able to have with my Algerian family.
My film explores this question through conversations I had with them earlier this year.
