Autism is a complex subject. There are many symptoms, each person specific, which can include anxiety and depression, leading to suicidal thoughts. Many people are ignorant to autism and have little awareness. Few research the subject. This real-life experience poem, written in Scots, explores the themes of autism awareness and identity. The subject receives her Autism Spectrum Disorder diagnosis aged 39. She has lived a life of nearly four decades without any support. The poem tells the story of the difficulties and confusions she has faced, in her own words, in her own tongue, and encourages the reader to go and do their own research and be more aware of Autism Spectrum Disorder.
