Masks. Are We Searching for the Moment of Crisis in Human Action?

Straiph Wilson

CeramicMasks, 2021

Contemporary Scottish artist creating ‘New Urban Religious objects’. Masks. A series of 150 ceramic masks. (67 complete) created during Covid-19 lockdown. During the pandemic, the advice on wearing a mask was amplified as a tool that may limit the spread of the disease. This introduced a new arena for human face recognition to which face masks changed the way faces are perceived. For better or for worse we now engage in a new revaluation of face perceptions.
