Mankind is an instinctive destroyer, but will nature have the last laugh?

Helen Johnson, 50

This painting was created during lockdown and the subsequent release back into the landscape. I am interested in climate change and weather conditions and in portraying in visual form the entire experience of being in the environment – the elements, the feeling, the colour, the light, movement as well as the ongoing battle between mankind and nature. This piece is also influenced by the concepts of Pantheism, and the power of nature in all things, over other man-made religions. The church is being consumed by the landscape and elements around it, with the spire disappearing into the sky.
