This image to me depicts what life is like in an impoverished area of Glasgow. Growing up in an area like this casts a strong light onto how things work, how you are moulded and ultimately how you become you.
Coming from areas like this presents stereotypes that are still present today. If you were remotely different from the grain you became a social pariah, then a target.
This unfortunately still stands today. Does it matter who you are, where you’re from, or what team you support?
In this city it still does. And I feel that we as a city have been left behind by time as it flows by while we sink.
I am Barry Collins. I am 36 years old and I grew up in Govan. Until we address these types of areas this mindset will always be present. The struggles of my youth still plague today’s.
