Is This All There Is?

E.E. Risk, 20

In this short story I decided to pose a question that I assume many people – including myself – ask themselves on a daily basis, ‘Is this all there is?’. From working in customer service and usually serving a demographic that are of a similar background to myself and my colleagues, my ears have become accustomed and subsequently bored of the polite chit-chat that exposes the nothingness we can all be guilty of indulging in with our time not spent in work. Despite the story questioning life – and in a way, life’s meaning – I anticipate that the use of humour reflects the attitudes of most working-class people, using patter despite the sometimes adverse situations that present themselves.
