Is my need of defining ‘self’ why I have entered this competition?

Mike Heseltine

Charcoal and acrylic.The burden of self., 20207" x 10"

I am told to look within for happiness and contentment. So why do I bother to make art? Why do I share it? Why do I care what others think of it? I have no answers, but a drawing instead. It shows the tree of knowledge, full of thoughts, filling my mind with past and future. It shows these thoughts obsessed with defining self, and asking questions for which there are no answers. Outside of these thoughts, the sun and moon come together in stillness, happiness and contentment. Beyond thought, there are no questions.
