The Doctors and Nurses who have been working flat-out to save lives during the last year of Pandemic have rightly received applause in the evenings. The volume of clapping may have died down, but life goes on. Without their knowledge and care many hundreds of thousands of people would have died – the risks are still there until we are all vaccinated. This painting, ‘Floreas Britannia’ illustrates the flower of British culture, stretching across county, national and international boundaries, fighting the Coronavirus. The weary nurse, wearing her personal Protective Equipment, exhausted from long hours and stress, genuinely appreciates the gratitude of patients and their families and friends in the simple gesture of a gifted rose. It typifies the Flower of the British in caring for all patients; in sacrificing their own time and prioritising the lives of others. The Flower of the British is also the Rose itself, sharing the pain, relief and gratitude.
