As a society, we put great weight upon blood and family being the same thing. They’re inextricably tangled in our culture. The trouble there is that blood can destroy us while claiming to be family. The other side is family who don’t share your blood, but who share in your love and your humanity; society often views these people as worthless than your blood. The truth is, these people are some of the most important people we will ever know, especially those of us who come from dysfunctional families.
