This short story explores the conflict and struggle of a gay man living in a future dystopian society which has been shaped by religious and political reformation.
Its relevance is with regards to the extreme effects of populism, political and religious extremism on society and the fragility of human rights.
It is relevant to the struggles of the past, the suppression and suffering faced by many, and asks whether lessons have truly been learned.
It is particularly relevant to the most dangerous form of religious extremism facing America today: Evangelical Christianity.
