Is an artist’s work any less valid because she or he struggles to discuss it?

Rae Tiernan, 45

My paintings are the truest expression of myself. They are exactly what I mean to say. Trying to discuss them in words feels disingenuous and insincere and like it will send the viewer on a wild goose chase of false directions. Attempting to explain what I mean inevitably leaves me tied up in knots of irrelevant words, phrases and art speak and always leaving me cringing at myself. Whether I’m a creative because I’m dyslexic or I’m dyslexic because I’m creative, I have no idea but mark making is definitely what I was born to do. Explaining it, however, is not.
