Is America Really the Land of the Free?

Christine Udhwani, 35

I was born and raised in the United States of America. This land of opportunity has led me to live a very privileged and slightly spoiled life. Growing up, I was unaware of how the rest of the world works and operates and thinks. However, all of that changed over a year ago when I married a wonderful man from Scotland. Upon marrying him, I moved to Scotland to begin my new life as a married woman and since then, my thinking started to change drastically. I now question everything that America does because now I see how life is lived here in Scotland. I see beauty and compassion and a greater sense of morale here. I see how people act and behave and think here. I also see vegans here! In the past year, I have watched documentaries, read books, and listened to podcasts so that I could gain a better understanding of America and why it is the way that it is. Many people say that America is the greatest country in the world, but after moving away from this country, I beg to differ. Maybe Scotland is the greatest country in the world!
