PoetryPaPa, 2016

I saw a photograph once of a child wielding a gun over the body of a dead soldier. I wanted to create a gut-punch of emotion in as little words as possible. In the end we are all children wielding weapons in wars we truly don’t understand. My poem poses the true horrors of war and, I hope, leaves the reader breathless. Nobody wins or loses in war. There is just those who live and those who die. This poem is important as it lingers on one moment in time just after the trigger is pulled.
