Lidl Kim’s Penne Palace is a collection of adverts for jewellery and a crown I made out of pasta. I created the crown and the jewellery by hot gluing penne pasta together and painting the pasta with nail polish. The pieces display how changeable the value of consumer goods is and how ridiculous the fashion industry is. At the start of the COVID-19 pandemic, people were stockpiling pasta and toilet paper while it didn’t matter how fabulous we looked as we were all stuck at home with no one to look at us. I decided to create jewellery out of pasta to show how worthless expensive jewellery and fashion accessories are and what truly matters is survival. I was inspired by the imagery of pawns shops and jewellery markets.
