How does one navigate through the sea of life?
When we look for a sign of life we look for water, for it is the medium through which all life is governed. Some say that water has a memory, that it is a responsive being, sensitive to whatever touches it. Ever morphing, water takes the shape of whatever contains. It adapts itself on a molecular level to that which it comes in contact with. Bruce Lee knew well of the apt skill set of this life-giving substance. His own advice was – ‘Be like water, my friend’. With no resistance and its intelligent plasticity, water can penetrate where no other substance can reach. It can, therefore, move with tremendous force or flow smoothly, much like human emotions that sweep us of our feet or overtake our minds gradually. To navigate through the open seas of our own fears and desires well, one should make good use of their natural compass – their own emotions.
While observing and engaging with the natural world around us we tap into the intelligence that goes beyond the ordinary dimensions of life. When we learn about the world outside of us it is when we discover ourselves, for all knowledge ultimately means self-knowledge.
