I got my first pair of glasses when I was 10 years old.
I was told to wear them only when I needed them, but the thing about glasses is that the more you wear them, the more you feel like you need them and the more you need them, the more you wear them. Thus began a lifetime of seeing the world through a lens. I imagine that, like much of the 74% of people in the UK, who either wear corrective eyewear or have had laser surgery, I wore my lenses all day every day. I felt that I had to. The world looked ugly without them. Then I began exploring natural remedies and holistic eye care. I let my eyes rest and began to learn to appreciate the beauty of the world I see without that added layer. And my eyesight got better for the first time in 16 years. I still need my glasses but I take them off a few times throughout the day, look out the window and enjoy that blurred out view that only I can see, and it is beautiful. With this piece, I wanted you to see what I see.
