Blocklist, 2021

“Blocklist” started life as a piece of writing to accompany some sound works I put together for a friend’s radio show. But as the words grew, so the pictures started to burn themselves into my brain – they came before the shots themselves, like a premonition. It was (and is) an attempt to move past a failed relationship that was so utterly rooted in a city – Glasgow – that the city itself had become toxic with whole areas rendered painful to visit. Part exorcism, part magical spell to try to move forwards; sometimes to fall back in love with something, you need to face up to the aspects of it that are painful and use the context of the changes you went through to heal and to move on – and learn to love the city all over again, with hopeful peace.
