At some point, we all experience the death of someone we care about. Creating is an active defiance against death because you make something from nothing. This reduces the experience of powerlessness; death may exist, but I can create. Writing helps us uncover our feelings, process our experience, and think about how to live on afterwards, even when it doesn’t fit into the stages of what might be expected. Through writing we find how we can live on with joy and hope as an act of defiance against the loss.
