How can we come to terms with who we really are?

Mhairi Campbell, 22

I wrote this poem to explore my own conflict with my sexuality. The conflict between what I am expected to be versus who I really am. I wanted to explore the idea of constantly fighting the truth about ourselves and what that can do to a person. I think this is important because although it depicts a struggle not everyone is familiar with, the concept of fighting ourselves is one which we can all relate to. I also wanted to depict the struggle of a gay women in a way that would allow people to understand.
