How are you feeling today? A simple question that we ask friends, family members, work colleagues and classmates everyday. A simple question, but it is a question that can spark a conversation and help someone to speak up about how they are feeling. A question with significance. My aim for this body of work was to photograph a group of children from a local nursery with the intention of focusing on the issue of mental health and well-being within early learning in Scotland. Mental health issues are a priority for the Scottish Government to tackle as it is estimated that 1 in 3 people are affected by mental illness, with depression and anxiety being the most common illnesses. The children I photographed were feeling a range of different emotions, including happiness, amusement and entrancement. By creating this portfolio, I hope to show that mental health affects everyone, regardless of their age, gender, religion, race etcetera. If we make children aware of how they are feeling now, then hopefully as an adult generation they will be in touch with their emotions. So, how are you feeling today?
