Short StoryWild Atlantic, 2021
This short story intertwines themes of loss, identity, freedom, and rebirth. I have researched the Highland clearances and the mythologies of Scotland. I decided to write a short story based on the clearances with a mythological twist. The short story captures the historical loss and horror for the people of the Highland clearances and deals with the issue of freedom and rebirth. We hear first hand accounts through the memories of a mother, and also through the eyes of her daughter. It captures what we know is historically true and the imagination of the writer.
