Science and Art are typically separate disciplines but through my work I have used scientific materials and processes to achieve a creative outcome. The use of X-ray film as a photographic negative creates an internal and oddly intimate portrait despite the sitter being anonymised. Even though their original use was for clinical research and diagnosis before being filed away, my cyanotype work aims to create beauty in their newly transformed state. I thrive on the unpredictable nature of the cyanotype process and purposefully do not use the science of Ultraviolet timings through test prints. Instead I rely on the visual impact of the UV light which lends itself to experiment and to create something original.
