Does past trauma live in our body forever?

Zoe Storrie, 27

My work looks at mental health. It is only in the past year that I’ve come to understand the effect of trauma on the physical body, the fact that it changes us at cellular level.
I think that it’s something that a lot of people don’t realise – it’s bigger than just sadness, and having it literally influence your brain structure makes it even harder to move on from. This prose-poem is my personal response to how that feels.
