Dyslexia is a learning difficulty that effects reading and writing abilities. It also has the effect of causing the creative side of the brain to overpower the rational side. This topic interests me as I was diagnosed with dyslexia at a young age, so it is very personal to me. I have always struggled with dyslexia, but I have pushed myself to achieve my best in my own, unique way. As I know dyslexia is something that many people deal with, I want to present that there is a hard and frustrating side to having dyslexia but that it also comes with a brilliant and unique side. I want to demonstrate how dyslexia makes some people think differently to others, and this does not mean that they are stupid. This fashion collection was designed with the intention of giving the wearer the feeling of empowerment. I showcase designs which look mostly at the creative and beneficial side of dyslexia. For this reason, I used bright, bold colours. Colour overlays, which help dyslexic people read, were a considerable influence for colour, layering and fabric within this project. My own handwriting and thoughts around dyslexia also feature within the collection.
