This poem explores the value of mindfulness – of being aware of, and appreciating, the present. It considers the consequences of waiting to “grow up” while young, only to seek to recapture lost youth when older.

By appreciating what each of us has in the moment, we can make the most of every stage of our lives and come to a better understanding of the experiences of those who have grown up or are growing up in a world different to the one we know or knew. This is especially important at a time in which the generational gap seems wider than ever.
