In the age of depression and high suicide rates we shout from the rooftops about how we are here to listen. You should talk to me, you should open up; but what happens when someone does? Do you listen? When someone opens up to us, our reaction for hundreds of different reasons can cause one to retreat back and regret trying to talk about what’s going on in their heads. Before replying to someone who is opening up, ask yourself this… Is this response caring? Is this response understanding? Does this response belittle their feelings? Is this response judgemental? Am I supporting what they actually need from me?
