Can drawing with lines and thread help us think around identity, while revealing hidden narratives in history?

Lois Langmead, 28

The inspiration for Lois’s continued research comes from histories, women’s issues, gender and the body. Research surrounding these subjects is sometimes referenced directly but also through a intuitive selection of fabric, mark making and stitch. By re-examining evocative historical imagery such as portraiture miniatures, using a intuitive selection of materials and techniques, Lois is raising questions about gender, the body and human behavior. Her pieces pose as familiar artifacts turned inside-out: revealing hidden narratives in history, with a careful yet incisive manipulation of material and imagery to give them a contemporary impact.
