For the past nine years I’ve been immersed in a new culture and way of life, I’m a Londoner living in Aberdeen. It’s liberated me. I’m becoming the person I’ve always wanted. My wee nephew was but a baby when I took the photo, only recently have I discovered that my normal to some is extraordinary and that my journey has been crafted by those that I have chosen to be part of my life. My pool of friends is smaller than ever but my happiness and self-worth has grown. Being working class and British, or Scottish, feels much the same from tip to toe whether in London or Aberdeen. I tell my nephew as I tell my sons, you are special, unique and one of many.
