Are We Wasting Time Which Could Be Used More Purposely?

Natalie Crawford-Smith

Oil PaintOleka, 2021

The piece I have submitted here is named Oleka. Her clothing is based on an upper class, classical style which I have always found great interest in.

The word Oleka means ‘the fear that you are wasting your life’ which is a problem I have been struggling a lot with lately. But for a word that has such a dark meaning it is also has a contrasting beauty as it is a pretty word.

This idea is displayed through the painting as a women of class and beauty but on the inside there is struggle. The struggle in emphasized by her black and white coloured clothing while the background and world around her is bright in positive colour.
