Are Oil Workers Heroes, or Villains?

Michael Shepherd, 29

My poem looks to highlight the changes in public opinion observed in relation to the Oil Industry.
Identifying the modern; often hypocritical view of a destructive, evil industry, all the while fully embracing a technology driven culture which demands more of the oil industry and the energy it provides.
My piece does not look to challenge the energy policies or opinions themselves but rather highlights the change in views seen over the maturing of the industry from an oil worker’s perspective whilst attempting to show that the companies and industry as a whole are a very real collective of people who make very real sacrifices to provide energy – which regardless of opinion – is the life blood of our nation.
