The further I am from everyone, the more absent they seem. The physical distance creates a need for intimacy, and an unintentional questioning of relationships. As we float away, who is still ashore? Is an online connection useful, or necessary, in maintaining the strength of our relations once we are geographically removed from one another? Some people are bad at keeping in touch, others just need space. ‘I’ll see you when I see you’: but what if I’m someone else by then? I experience a sense of instability, as if I’m in the water, out in the open, drifting. This feeling of floating affects my body, but in the end it keeps me in place. We might all be moving but for now we’re not going anywhere.
