AM I A MONSTER OR IS THIS WHAT IT MEANS TO BE HUMAN? The experience of being human. Many serious health problems seem to develop unexpectedly, upsetting your life out of the blue. You may feel overwhelmed by waves of difficult emotions—from fear and worry to profound sadness, despair, and grief—or just numb, frozen by shock or the feeling that you’ll never be able to cope. Even the very word ‘disease’ is marginalizing and dehumanizing. THE MONSTER is the opposite of that which is comfortable or pleasant, it cannot be domesticated, and if it could, it wouldn’t be a monster Is it normal to feel bad about being something that you can’t change especially if that something has social stigma attached to it?
