Walter Scott Monument

Apolloniya Vlasova

I have always been enchanted by the old architecture - drawing it from outdoor cafes and bars, from the street, from my own window. The value this work represents is appreciation for tradition and history and enjoyment of life. Aesthetics is one of the most important aspects of life for me, and Edinburgh has fulfilled all my expectation in that sense. The moment I arrived here, I was enchanted by cosy pubs and grandiose monuments. The feeling of 'the old' has gotten to my core and I cannot stop enjoying it every time I go outside. This drawing is a tribute to my love for the atmosphere of the old. It is done with quill and ink, a technique inspired by architectural prints. The quill makes physical indents in the paper which represent the mark that this city has left on me.
