This painting examines the dialogue that develops between the tactile, painterly gesture and the contrasting digitally-generated printed mark. Through the juxtaposition of these elements I aim to encourage the viewer to consider the experience of looking at a physical painting in comparison to our everyday experience of looking at digitally generated information on a screen. I am fascinated by colour; utilising eye-catching, synthetic colours to question painting’s allure in a World where screens are so addictive and seductive. Through the multi-layering of paint and print to simulate ‘digital noise’ which I then ‘edit’ through the process of painting and drawing over areas, my work aims to challenge the idea of ‘information overload’ in our internet-orientated modern society.
