The Obsolete Human Being

The Obsolete Human Being

Tamara Lou

I first discovered the advancement of Artificial Intelligence in the high school library. At once I was both simultaneously amazed and bewildered at the creations and the possibilities amongst us as a new "race". Struck by the absurdity that these creations: our technology, had the potential to outsmart us, to perform more efficiently, more consistently and more logically, raised the issue that perhaps one day, humans may become irrelevant. Demonstrated visually as an embodiment of AI and a man, the stance of each character reflects their power, whilst the composition is inspired by Darwinism. Representing the rebellion of AI on humans, the abruptness present, symbolises the end of natural evolution. I aim to draw attention to the dangers of our tampering and curiosity, to the possible rebellion of machine against man and to convey the message that we are not superior to our creations. Although the future may seem as if it were in our hands, it does not belong to us, inevitably, we are building a future towards our own demise as a species.
