Taking the Robinsons to University

Taking the Robinsons to University

Hannah Robinson

I created this piece impulsively. It was the night before heading up to university for the first time and I felt very alone, realising that I was about to enter a world full of strangers. How was I going to stay grounded? Could I be successful whilst still being myself? Instinctively, my brush began to loosely carve out the face shapes of my family. My Mama, who I miss everyday, soon glowed back at me in marigold yellow. The web of roughly articulated profiles was to become my little reminder of home, my reassurance of love and my inspiration to work hard. Far from home, in a place full of strong ambition and talent, this painting hangs in my university room, reminding me to keep going, however hard it can be at times. *update* a boy broke my heart last night. I need the reassurance more than ever. (Oil on canvas)
