The values my entry expresses are those of organisation, problem solving and most importantly inclusivity. It’s essential for every “colour” (knit structure) within the Tartan to be unique on a tactile level to inform the user of changes in pattern within the fabric. To have a successful outcome it was essential to be methodical with the design process, creating knit swatches, evaluating, organising informal peer testing and then reevaluating when it came to producing initial tartan samples so that the tactile differences were achieved. The entry also expresses inclusivity, specifically to those with visual impairments, a disability which is often forgotten about in both the Fashion and Art sectors. The Tactile Tartan attempts to fully include those who are visually impaired in this cultural cloth which is steeped in heritage for those who are Scottish and of Scottish descent.
