Monologue (Man In Window)

Silas Curtis

What interests me at the moment is a relationship between human neurosis and ideology, neurosis being its necessary foundation and its ruin. I am keen to portray peoples’ failure and persistence to sustain a sense of worth and integration amongst a political and social landscape cut up with anxieties and isolation; and, how within the schizophrenic and dangerous fictions of this culture one’s ceaseless yearning for  (something, anything!) real chooses to manifest itself. The piece documents a passionate striving for a communion, a mutual recognition, that must not survive on ideas alone. I hope to reopen a dialogue away from a self-serving (but well-meaning) monologues about difference (from the safety of one’s computer probably) and point towards the importance of lived experience and embodied communication for its sincere and transformative recognition.
