The Overture

The Overture

Piotr Pawliszyn

The title “The Overture” refers to the beginning of Massacres of Poles in Volhynia and Eastern Galicia during the World War II and it is also a first painting of my series, which is a tribute to the victims. The reference photo, which I used to paint this image, comes from my family photos and shows cousins of my grandmother who died during the WWII.

It was important to me to paint this picture, because this subject is not popular and it has a connotation with my family, which suffered during the war. I wanted to use this subject to show how disastrous is war and to try to have an influence to never let it happen again.
