Pinky Promise Land

George Tomsett

Pinky Promise Land is an anthology of ten poems I wrote with the intention of showcasing my experience with the value of forgiveness. After moving to Scotland last year, I found myself in need of a creative outlet. Poetry, as such a versatile and enduring art form, has proven to be the perfect medium. Half of the poems examine the challenges many young people face, from parental homophobia, as seen in Values, to national homophobia in A Georgian Beach, mental health issues in Old Friend, heartache in A Message From the Moon, losing friends in Bandicate and even losing a brother in Happy Birthday, Little Brother.

However, the other half shows me overcoming these trials through forgiveness, whether forgiving yourself, your past, your parents, your lovers, your friends or even God. Through this, the anthology taps into the inherent beauty of the modern world, the love and friendship that exists within the noise if we only choose to look. I sincerely hope each poem takes the reader on a journey but, more than this, I hope the anthology, as a holistic creative endeavour, shows my journey of discovering the power of forgiveness and its unique ability to heal even the oldest and deepest wounds.
